But like it or not, Bellamy IS "white passing." And maybe you should read the op's post before tearing them apart? I really don't get all the homophobia in this fandom. Yes, racism is bad, but homophobia is way more prevalent in fandom spaces. Clarke may be LGBT rep but she wasn't before Lexa, and Lexa is a lesbian so she offers more to a lot of people. Try to have some empathy.

:

oh my god. you must be new here.

clearly, since i have behaved myself by making my own posts instead of taking over that op’s gross trash blog, god has blessed me and sent you to me as a gift, so i can tackle each of these offensive, ignorant points all at once.

first of all mongoose, i see that you seem to subscribe to layne morgan pa (the p stands for problematic)’s bullshit opinion: that if a person has what you decide is light-enough skin, then their ethnicity is inconsequential, because they can pass off as white.

nevermind the fact that “white passing” is a racist term in and of itself, consistently used as just another way to invalidate poc’s. nevermind the fact that biracial and simply light-skinned poc’s have to deal with racism and discrimination just as much as other poc’s. nevermind the fact that people like @thelovelylights are asked to “prove” their ethnicity, or accused of lying on a regular basis. nevermind the fact that my best friend is called “too black” by her white mom’s family but “too white” by her black dad’s.

nevermind the fact that the op didn’t refer to bellamy as “white passing,” but to bob morley–which is infinitely worse, since he’s a real live human being. nevermind the fact that bob has come out and spoken in depth about the racism he faced growing up, and the fact that he still faces racism today, both in person and on social media!

so first of all mongoose, fuck off with that racist nonsense. (and if you ever have to start a statement with “racism is bad, but” you probably just shouldn’t finish it.)

second of all, i see you are once again conforming to layne “bi girls aren’t really bi unless they end up with a girl!” morgan’s belief that somehow lexa, as a lesbian, is better lgbt representation than clarke, as a bisexual. this belief is biphobia, just so you’re aware, and is gross and harmful to bi people (because–surprise!–boys can be bi too!) everywhere. (also to pan people, but since you and others like you don’t seem to know pansexuality exists, i’m not surprised you feel this way).

the very real truth of the matter is that lexa is not better lgbt rep than clarke, or miller, or bryan, or niylah. they’re all lgbt rep, and they’re all important.

the very real truth is that thought processes like “bi girls are only bi if they end up with a girl!” confirms the idea that a man can and will change a woman’s sexuality.

so, now this message has been racist and biphobic. you really are the king of all mongooses.

third of all, i did read the original post! i can understand why you might think i didn’t, since i did not reblog it and instead chose to combat it with my own original post–because i didn’t want to give the op anymore notes.

so, having read it, i can firmly attest to the fact that it was ultimately racist, biphobic, and offensive in many other ways.

for instance, i have a feeling that the op, yourself AND layne morgan would all get along splendidly, because the op, like layne, is convinced that bob/bellamy fans are all teenage girls who are sexually attracted to him. which is a little confusing to me, a 21-year-old asexual, and to several other bob/bellamy fans who are asexual, lesbian, or simply not attracted to him.

but who cares about those fans, right? just write them completely out of the narrative, nbd.

ah yes, you all are the pinnacle of “lgbt fans deserve better!” except, wait, let’s rewrite that so it shows how you really feel:

“SPECIFIC LGBT FANS DESERVE BETTER! AND BY SPECIFIC WE MEAN ONLY WLW! AND BY WLW WE MEAN ONLY NON-MGA WLW!”

there we go.

and while we’re on the subject of that original post, let’s also address how incredibly terrifying it is that apparently no one is allowed to criticize a character if they’re lgbt! the issues that this brings up are plenty, but my biggest one is the fact that it’s a certain level of fetishization.

the lesbian is being put up on an untouchable pedestal. please consider how exactly that might go wrong.

now add to that the fact that anyone who does manage to speak up against lexa is automatically labeled homophobic–in some cases having their sexuality completely erased and rewritten by lexa fans, just to suit their argument–and i hope you can see why this is a problem. (in fact, that might be one of the reasons you think homophobia is so prevalent in fandom spaces? i’m not saying it isn’t, but having been here for a while, most of the posts i’ve seen called homophobic were actually just anti-lexa. the two are not mutually inclusive.)

now let’s bring in the fact that a real person was attacked on behalf of a fictional character and that is probably the worst part.

fourth of all, even excluding all the racism and biphobia and gross levels of misogyny involved, the original post was still wrong, because they believe that their opinion is somehow fundamentally more right than bob morley’s. which is wrong in and of itself, but is also insanely presumptive, since bob morley actually works on the show–so he probably knows what he’s talking about, just saying.

fifth of all, no. i had empathy. in fact i still do, for the clexa/lexa fans who have been nothing but lovely human beings, throughout this whole ship war and character death. the ones who just enjoy their ship and make cute pictures or fanfics. the ones who are hurting right now and dealing with that accordingly. the ones who are trying to heal, who are moving on in their own way.

but i have no patience or respect for bullies. i have no respect for people who harass others, who harass the cast and crew, who send death threats and fake suicide notes, who harass other fans, who claim their representation is more important than other minorities’, who spread hate and vitriol and try to force everyone to agree with them, like the fascist asses they are.

i have no patience for people who gave no shits about poc or disabled fans who were complaining about the sidelining of their representation, about the shoddy writing, about the many issues of the show–just because your ship was fine. i have no patience for those same people now trying to use poc and disabled fans as canon fodder, as padding for your “cause,” or emotional blackmail. that makes you just as bad as jroth.

i have no patience for racism or ableism or biphobia in the name of your cause. if your representation can only come at the cost of someone else’s, then you should find a different way.

if your “cause” results in the unemployment of hundreds of people who have done nothing wrong, then you should find a different way. if your “cause” involves you harassing other fandoms (cough destiel cough ftwd) then you should find a different way.

and, for god’s sake, when someone says they were hurt by the hurtful words and actions of others, maybe you should try some empathy on for size. people are allowed to feel things. you don’t have a monopoly on pain and hurt and sadness. a real person should never be less important to you than a fictional character.

and now for a message to all the lgbt community members who know nothing about the 100 and only showed up because of lexa’s death:

hello. i know you’re here to support other lgbt members who are hurting, and i respect that.

however, do not presume to know literally anything about the rest of us. we like different ships and characters for different reasons that largely have fuck-all to do with our sexualities. don’t make a call-out post for some fandom you are ignorant about, based on information that isn’t true. don’t try to pressure other fans into joining your cause or your boycott. don’t assume everything is about you.

and, as a general disclaimer: this is not directed at all clexa fans, please don’t think it is. a lot of you are great, and i love you.

but to anyone who has taken part in any of the fuckery listed above: check yourself. stay the fuck out of my inbox.

and get the fuck out of my fandom.
